Why I’m Not Setting Fitness Resolutions This Year

This year, I’m not setting fitness resolutions.

Not because I don’t care — but because I’ve learned through experience that motivation is often fleeting and that life can be incredibly unpredictable.

Resolutions tend to rely heavily on the idea of perfect weeks filled with high energy and unyielding determination. However, real life doesn’t operate on such a predictable schedule

— especially for women who juggle multiple roles as mothers, partners, and business owners. The demands of daily life can often throw our best intentions off course, making it difficult to adhere to rigid goals.

Instead, I’m choosing routine over rules. This means embracing a flexible yet steady approach to fitness that allows for the ebbs and flows of life. I’m prioritizing consistency over intensity, recognizing that small, manageable efforts can lead to significant and sustainable changes over time. And I’m valuing community over the isolation that often comes with trying to achieve fitness goals alone. There’s immense power in shared experiences and mutual support, especially among women who understand the unique challenges we face.

That’s exactly how we built the new Hills & Valleys class schedule — to provide women with a steady rhythm that accommodates the unpredictable nature of life. Our classes are designed to offer built-in accountability, ensuring that you have a supportive network to lean on even when the going gets tough. We want to create a welcoming environment where you can show up, not just on your best days, but also on the hard days when motivation might be lacking.

If you’re tired of the cycle of starting over every January, this is your permission to break free from that pattern and do things differently this time around. You don’t have to set lofty resolutions that may feel overwhelming or unattainable. Instead, embrace the idea of gradual progress and allow yourself the grace to adapt as life unfolds.

Come find your rhythm with us at Hills & Valleys. You’re always welcome here, and together, we can navigate the ups and downs of our fitness journeys, celebrating each small victory along the way.
